My volunteering story
As an individual who arrived in Canada with no acquaintances, I found myself feeling quite alone. Although I knew my husband and his family, I longed to expand my social network and improve my situation. I took the initiative to apply for jobs, submitting numerous resumes and doing my best to secure employment. Unfortunately, my efforts were in vain, and I found myself without a job.
However, during that time, a non-profit long-term care facility had opened near my home, and I decided to register as a volunteer. I was assigned to the outreach program, where I assisted with clerical work, spoke with instructors, organized events, collected tutor fees, and answered the phone. Working as a volunteer proved to be very fulfilling, and I was able to make many friends while learning more about Canadian culture. Moreover, it provided me with additional education and employment opportunities.
Today, I am happy to say that I have been working in the healthcare field for over a decade. I attribute my success to the day I decided to volunteer, which taught me the value of selflessness and helping others. Although there was no monetary compensation for my volunteer work, it was rewarding to know that I was making a difference in the lives of others.
To anyone who may be in a similar situation, I urge you to take the chance and volunteer. It can be a gateway to new friendships, new experiences, and even new opportunities for employment. With hard work and determination, anyone can charge their destiny and make a lasting impact on their community. Remember that Canada is your home, and you have the power to leave your mark on every corner of it.
